Hi, my name is Mike, a.k.a. "Griff," the GRIFF in GRIFF's GRIME SHOP. I am just your average guy who loves model railroading and loves sharing this great hobby with others. I have been into model railroading and art ever since childhood, and with the building of my own layout with my Son I have decided to combine my two hobbies into one -- creating Griff's Grime Shop!
Three years ago I began selling/auctioning my work on eBay under the screen name mrg76. To this day, my works are still being auctioned almost weekly in HO and N scale on eBay.
Have anything up this week? Use the menu bar on the left hand side of this page to check and see what I may have up on eBay this week.
Graffiti, Grimy, Rusty, Dirty, Dusty -- WEATHERED!
Weathering is just a fact of life. Things such as railcars, locomotives, and buildings are grossly affected by the elements (weather) and the environment in which they work/exist. Paint fades, corrosion (rust) forms, and things just get dirty! With the millions of tons of freight shipped by rail each day, rail companies have very little time to maintain and clean railcars, locos, and rail equipment. Therefore, rolling stock, locomotives, and rail equipment pay the price due to their heavy & demanding usage and utter lack of care, not to mention vandalism from spray can bearing hoodlums!
I like to ensure all my model trains have that same realistic look!
Through the use of washes, powders, hand painted acrylic & oil based paints, and some other products, combined with some "hard" work, I transform plastic kits and ready-to-run models into 1/87 scale replicas of railcars we see all over North America. To me, weathering a car, building, locomotive, or any detail on a layout is the one and only step that transforms a model layout into a "small" world. Think about it, anything left outside weathers -- so why shouldn't everything on the layout shows signs of the unforgiving elements?
This website is a compilation of my works to date, some background information on the Grime Shop, custom orders, weathering tips, and other model railroad information. I hope you enjoy my site -- thanks for visiting! I am always happy to help you with your weathering needs or questions you might have. You can either reach me through this site or at mgriff76@yahoo.com
